Research from the Morris laboratory was the first to uncover a role in human cells for non-coding RNAs in the control gene transcription and epigenetic states. These observations provided those foundational studies determining that an endogenous mechanism is active in human cells that can be taken advantage of to control gene expression in a specific and targeted manner. Building on this foundation the Morris lab has discovered several non-coding RNA pathways involved in the control of key genes involved in human disease and interrogated methods to use RNAi and innovative lipid nanoparticle or extracellular vessicle nanoparticle delivery vehicles to modulate these genes and ameliorate disease.
